Aged Care Facilities

Masonic Homes of Northern Tasmania offers a number of facilities and lifestyle services to the Elderly Community around Launceston and the Tamar River.

We are committed to offering the community the best available elderly care in Australia. Our range of care is extensive and has evolved to meet the needs of our residents and clients.

Masonic Peace Haven

Masonic Peace HavenMasonic Peace Haven is an Aged Care Facility catering to 48 residents with late stage dementia, 41 Hostel residents and a large Day Therapy Centre.

The staff are associated with senior educational institutions such as the University of Tasmania and provide regular support to nursing students.

Through its association with the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service, Masonic Peace Haven won the 2001 Prime Minister's Employer of the Year Award (Tasmania).

Residents are given care which is based on best practice and research. Many of our Registered Nurses have Science degrees, some with Honours. Untrained staff have been encouraged to enrol in training offered by TAFE and the University of Tasmania.

Fred French

Fred French Masonic Home in Amy Rd, Newstead was established in 1962 after Fred French left a legacy in his Will.

Fred French Masonic Home currently cares for 62 High Care residents and 20 Low Care residents. Included in these numbers are 7 regular Respite places. Our care is based on current best practice and nursing and aged research and is aimed at giving the best possible outcome for all residents.

Nursing care is supplemented by physiotherapy and occupational therapy. There is podiatry care and hairdressing available. Most residents have their own en-suite and are encouraged to join in the Activity Programs. Families are encouraged to be involved in the care and social needs of all residents.

Respite Care

Respite Care is available both in the Low and High Care areas of both Masonic Peace Haven and Fred French. It is arranged through the Aged Care Assessment Team.

Periods of respite can be from 7 days to nine weeks with a maximum of 63 days in one year. The periods of respite are designed to give assistance to the carers for a break or necessary medical attention.

Appointments may be conducted to inspect the facilities available.

Day Therapy Centre

Day Therpay Centre provides an opportunity for clients to interact socially while obtaining therapy and support from trained staff.

As well as assisting residents to stay in their own homes longer, it allows carers/family to have periods of short repsite. Ongoing surveys are conducted to identify clients changing therapy needs, likes and dislikes in order to provide the best possible support for each individual.

Day Therapy Centre often works in partnership with Outreach, providing a supportive environment for clients. The number of clients attending the centre has remained stable throughout the year, averaging approximately 50 people per day.

Community

CommunityMasonic Peace Haven operates 27 Federal Government funded Aged Care Packages in Launceston through it’s Community Care/Outreach Program.

To be eligible for these packages prospective clients must be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) as needing the level of care and support provided by this Program. Clients who are not in receipt of the ACAT approval may still obtain a private package and pay negotiated fees.

The MPH Program provides a range of services to its clients. Individual packages will vary according to the needs of each client.

Family

The contribution that family members make in the care of clients in our facilities cannot be underestimated.

The quality of care received depends on a number of factors within our management controls. The family aspect remains the most significant factor in achieving an ideal care based environment.

We would invite family members to be involved in the care-planning of their loved one and in family conferences with the resident, staff and doctor if possible to discuss all aspects of the resident’s care and well-being whilst in our care.
